Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) announced the return of its annual GIVE BACKpacks campaign on Sunday. The goal of the campaign is to provide students with the supplies they need in order to succeed academically.
Throughout the summer and early fall, MCPS will be collecting donations from the community and putting them toward buying backpacks and school supplies for students who need them. The backpacks include pencils, notebooks, scissors, glue sticks and various other necessities.
The donations will mainly go toward schools that have the highest percentages of students who qualify for Free and Reduced-Priced Meals (FARMS). The best process to distribute the backpacks will be left to each school’s administrative team.
Last year, the campaign assisted 10,823 students who needed school supplies. For the 2023-2024 school year, MCPS’s goal is to raise enough money to purchase 30,000 backpacks.
A donation of $20 is enough to provide one student with a backpack and supplies. All donors will be recognized on the MCPS website. Those interested can find more information on the campaign here.
It's that time again! The 12th GIVE BACKpacks campaign is here.
MCPS places orders throughout the summer with a goal of providing as many students as possible with a backpack and supplies at the start of the school year.
