MCPS Graduation Speakers Announced

More than 11,000 Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students will receive high school diplomas in commencement ceremonies beginning next week.

The high school commencement season begins Wednesday, May 29, and will end Wednesday, June 12.

Graduation ceremonies are hosted at individual high school campuses, at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., and on the campuses of Mount St. Mary’s University (MSM) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).

In total, 25 high schools and 6 programs will have graduation ceremonies this spring.

Commencement Speakers

Speakers at this year’s ceremonies include White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at Thomas S. Wootton High School; Maryland Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller at Northwest High School; Washington Wizards assistant coach David Vanterpool at Montgomery Blair High School; Dunn Foundation president and founder Dr. William Dunn at Paint Branch High School; and Mike Sacks, author and Winston Churchill High School alumnus, at his alma mater.

Additional speakers are:

  • John Ross, executive director of Nourishing Bethesda, at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School
  • Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton at Richard Montgomery High School
  • Fashion designer and James Hubert Blake High School graduate Danielle Williams Eke at her alma mater
  • Author and Gaithersburg High School graduate Charlene Thomas at her alma mater
  • District 19 Maryland State Delegate Vaughn Stewart at Rockville High School
  • Acting MCPS Chief of Staff Henry Johnson, former principal, at Northwood High School
