Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) is providing several resources to support its students and keep them engaged in learning over the summer. Here is what you need to know:
MCPS has online learning tools for students to stay sharp during the summer, such as reading and math review materials and access to the Open Source Phonics website. The county is also reopening the waitlist for Montgomery Virtual Academy.
The MCPS website lists several opportunities for summer enrichment – both locally and nationally, including activities ranging from a coding camp for middle schoolers to pre-college programs.
For elementary students who attend a Title I school, a free Extended Learning Opportunity is offered in the month of July.
There are many free activities in the area available to MCPS students and their families, like the Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) Summer Reading Challenge. MCPS community members also have free access to the KID Museum in Bethesda every Sunday this summer until August 27.
The county is also collecting donations to buy backpacks and supplies for students in need as a part of its GIVE BACKpacks campaign. The campaign successfully provided more than 10,000 students supplies during the 2022-2023 year, and the goal is to buy 30,000 backpacks over the summer to support MCPS students this upcoming year.
Check out the MCPS website to learn more about these programs and opportunities.
Did you know that admission to KID Museum is free to MCPS students on Sundays?
