Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) announced the closure of all schools and offices on Tuesday, Jan. 7. The decision follows ongoing dangerous winter weather conditions, including snow and ice, which require additional time to clear roads, sidewalks, and school grounds.
All school-based activities, field trips, athletic practices, and events are canceled. Childcare programs and community use activities will not take place. Emergency personnel are expected to report to work as scheduled.
Virtual learning will not be available during this closure. MCPS officials emphasized that safety remains their top priority and acknowledged the inconvenience this decision may cause families.
Emergency food service sites are being prepared to assist the community. Locations for these services will be announced early Tuesday morning.
Decisions regarding school operations for Wednesday, Jan. 8, will be made as more information becomes available.
