The Montgomery County Public Schools Staff P.R.I.D.E group, a professional and social network for MCPS staff that identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, will be holding its first meeting at Elder Pine Brewing on July 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the organization announced.
Individuals of the group must be a MCPS Staff member to join and attend events. The organization focuses on bringing LGBTQIA+ staff members together in order to discuss experiences and to advocate for an inclusive work environment, according to the group’s mission statement.
The meeting on July 27 serves as the first opportunity for group members to meet and share ideas. The organization also announced that future meetings will be planned, with another gathering set towards “the start of the school year.”
“We hope you can stop by and meet some other members of our affinity group, as well as share ideas about how our group can support one another moving forward,” the group stated per the RSVP form.
Those who have questions or want more information about the meeting, or the group in general, should use their MCPS work email to contact one of the following group leaders: Elicia Eberhart-Bliss, Gwen Filipiak, Chris Knocke, Kristi Licare, Shaun Sawko or Holly Van Puymbroeck. Contact information for these individuals can be found on the MCPS Staff directory here.
To register for the event, the RSVP form can be found here. More information regarding resources for staff and students that identify with the LGBTQIA+ community can be found here.
