Montgomery County Public School’s Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC) held its first meeting for the 2023-2024 year on Wednesday at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville.
The council is made up of student-athlete representatives from Montgomery County Public High Schools who represent approximately 30,000 student-athletes.

The MCPS website states the council “cultivates academic, athletic, and community excellence by engaging student-athletes to serve as district-level leaders within the MCPS education-based interscholastic athletics program.”
Members of the council are expected to uphold the MCPS athletics R.A.I.S.E. core values.
Department of Athletics Outreach and Development Coordinator Kathy Green aired the MCPS Athletics Safety Plan public service announcement.
Athletic Director for Albert Einstein High School Jermaine Howell shared the SALC theme of the year which is “Learn, Lead, and Leverage.”
Compliance Coordinator, Anne Rossiter, presented highlights from the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) National Student Leadership Summit and recognized the seven student-athletes who represented Montgomery County.
Dr. Monifa B. McKnight appeared at the council meeting, sharing her gratitude for the SALC members.
Members of the council participated in a leadership development session, challenging student-athletes to make an effort to empower teammates.
