Hate and bias incidents in schools have grown significantly in recent months, according to Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS).
At 4 p.m. Thursday, MCPS Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight is expected to announce districtwide actions in response to the increased incidents in an address at Rockville High School, according to a release from MCPS.
It will be livestreamed on YouTube and the MCPS website. In-person audience is limited to invitees.
Per the release from MCPS, “The rise of incidents of hate, bias, racism, antisemitism and LGBTQ+ prejudice has grown significantly over recent months.”
“The superintendent will characterize the problem, issue a collective call to action and announce actions the school district will take moving forward.”
During a media briefing Wednesday, County Executive Marc Elrich said a more deliberate policy is needed.
