Madeline Hanington, an English teacher at Hallie Wells Middle School in Clarksburg, is having a year many educators dream of.
In April, she was named a finalist for the 2019-2020 Montgomery County Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year. Now, she’s one of seven educators in the state nominated for the Maryland Teacher of the Year Award.
MyMCMedia caught up with the acclaimed teacher and learned about her personal influences and teaching pedagogy. We also spoke to her colleague and friend, Jessica Thompson, a Spanish teacher at Hallie Wells.
Maryland’s Teacher of the Year will be named on October 25 at a gala reception dinner in Baltimore. Winners receive cash awards, travel opportunities, technology equipment, and a new car—donated by the Maryland Automobile Dealers Association—valued around $25,000.
