Metro customers will see a slight fare increase starting Sunday, June 30, to keep fares in line with cost-of-living adjustments and maintain current service levels.
The last general fare increase was in 2017, with some fares rising last year. This year’s adjustment raises most fares by 12.5%.
Metrobus fares will increase from $2 to $2.25, while Express Bus fares will rise to $4.80. Weekday Metrorail fares will range from $2.25 to $6.75 based on distance. The current $2 flat rate for after 9:30 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends will be replaced by a distance-based price ranging from $2.25 to $2.50. Metro Access fares will be capped at $4.50.
Reduced fare programs like MetroLift and senior discounts will continue at 50% off regular fares.
Monthly unlimited passes will remain available, with prices ranging from $72 to $216 based on distance. The 1-day unlimited pass will cost $13.50, the 3-day pass $33.75, the 7-day short-trip pass $40.50, the 7-day unlimited pass $60.75, and the 7-Day Regional Bus Only Pass $13.50.
Customers can use the Trip Planner tab on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority site to find updated fares by setting the date to after June 30.
