Two incidents from last week prompted reports from Metro.
The first happened on Tuesday, June 20, when a passenger attempted a stunt seen on TikTok known as “subway surfing”. The passenger attempted stunt riding from the Brookland Station on the Red Line a little after 4:30 p.m. Their dead body was found on the Rhode Island Avenue train tracks shortly thereafter.
Metro spokesperson Sherri Ly issued the following statement regarding the fatality: ” We can confirm the individual is believed to have climbed on top of a moving railcar prior to being found deceased on the tracks.”
She added, “Since the beginning of 2021, there have been four other reports of individuals riding atop railcars, two of which resulted in non-fatal injuries.”
On Friday, June 23, a man crossed over the tracks from one platform to the other at the Eisenhower Station in Alexandria. He was taken into custody and arrested for trespassing. Crossing over the tracks can also be dangerous. According to Ly, “You can get electrocuted if you come in contact with the third rail.”
