Metrobus Crashes Into Wheaton Jewelry Store

Update — According to Metro Transit Police, the driver of the van “that caused” Thursday morning’s crash was charged with four infractions: unsafe lane change, failure to control speed to avoid collision, improper right turn and failure to wear corrective lens.

A Metrobus collided with a vehicle and store Thursday morning in Wheaton, according to officials.

Three people, including the bus driver, were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, according to the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD). There were no passengers on the bus.

The crash occurred around 9:30 a.m. near Veirs Mill Road and University Boulevard, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

The bus first collided with a vehicle before crashing into a jewelry store, according to MCPD. The store was closed and not occupied at the time of the collision, police said.

According to photos shared by Piringer, the bus crashed into Wheaton Jewelry Buyers Inc. on Ennalls Avenue.

Police said MCFRS is inspecting the building. Veirs Mill Road between Reedie Drive and University Boulevard was closed, per police.
