Residents can help needy families by donating healthy, unopened, non-perishable food items during the annual food drive from now through Monday, Jan. 8. Food collected through the drive goes to the Capital Area Food Bank.
According to the food bank, one in three people in the region face hunger. Metro’s goal is to give enough food and raise enough money to create 35,000 meals for those in need.
Metro will bring a bus to donation sites around the region from now through Monday, Jan. 8. Donations may also be made online through the Fill-A-Bus website through Jan. 12. Every $1 donated provides two meals.
Last year, Metro and the public helped raise more than $14,000 for the food bank, beating the goal of $13,000. That, paired with the in-person donations, created 32,000 meals.
