Comic and cosplay fans of all ages gathered for MoComCon, a two-day event hosted by Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) in Germantown, celebrating comics, cosplay, and storytelling.
The convention kicked off on Saturday, March 22, at BlackRock Center for the Arts located at 12901 Town Commons Drive, featuring panels, workshops, and contests.
A career panel explored opportunities in the comic industry, while the highly anticipated cosplay contest showcased creative costumes in separate teen and adult categories.
One contestant said events like MoComCon help strengthen the local community.
“MoComCon is a very important event for people to come together and tell each other about their passion and show their creativity with others as a way to connect.” they said.
Another participant highlighted the value of having a local event dedicated to cosplay.
“Cosplaying is a very niche thing, I don’t think a lot of people would be able to find it in their own neighborhood.” they said. “ Having an event like this in Montgomery County would be able to help people find each other, and make friends and share tips on how to make different cosplays.”
An attendee praised the event for being free, making it accessible to those who might not afford larger conventions.
“ Having an event like MoComCon where people can’t afford the money to go to a convention like Otakon or Katsucon, gives people an opportunity to create their own communities and make new friends, and have this lasting experience that could span years and years.” they said.
The convention continued on Sunday, March 23, at the Germantown Library located at the Germantown Library at 19840 Century Blvd.
It featured a costume parade for children under 12, interactive displays, an art and essay contest, and graphic novels, creating a fun and inclusive space for families.
The event was made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Library, Montgomery County and the BlackRock Center for the Arts.
