A 16-year-old 10th grader at Montgomery Blair High School student was fatally shot Wednesday, according to Prince George’s Police Department.
Kevin Ruiz Campos of Silver Spring was killed and a second victim was injured in a parking lot at 7900 block of Riggs Road in Langley Park.
At about 5:30 p.m., police responded to the scene of a shooting and found Campos in an apartment building parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
An adult male also was shot and currently is being treated in the hospital.
Police are working to identify a suspect and the motive for the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call 301-516-2512. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment.
Blair Principal Renay Johnson wrote a letter Thursday to the Blair community expressing sadness, noting, “It is very difficult for all of us to face the death of a young person.”
She also wrote, “I know you join me in extending our heartfelt sympathy to Kevin’s family.”
School psychologists, counselors and the pupil personnel worker will be available for counseling, Johnson said.
