Montgomery College has received approval from the Maryland Apprenticeship and Training Council (MATC) to become a sponsor of registered apprenticeships in biotechnology, according to a press release.
The college’s apprenticeship program combines classroom instruction with hands-on job training, offering students an opportunity to earn while they learn.
This initiative aims to prepare participants for careers in the biotechnology and biomanufacturing industries.
Montgomery College has partnered with industry leaders AstraZeneca (AZ) and Charles River Laboratories (CRL) to provide apprentices with valuable real-world experience.
Dr. Richard Cerkovnik, director of the iSTEM Network at Montgomery College, said in a press release that the program presents a valuable opportunity for students.
“This is an exciting development and it offers a bright future to our students and the biotechnology industry,” said Dr.Cerkovnik.
Apprenticeships play a vital role in connecting education with employment, helping individuals gain practical skills that align with industry needs.
By equipping participants with these skills, the program aims to strengthen the workforce and contribute to economic growth.
Recruitment for the program’s first group of apprentices is scheduled to take place this semester.
