Montgomery College will host a national premiere April 28 to introduce a first-of-its-kind curriculum supporting students who have children.
The event, Care & Curriculum: Spotlight on Student Parents — From Insight to Impact, will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Parilla Performing Arts Center on the Rockville Campus.
The curriculum, Supporting the Basic Needs of Parenting Students, was developed to help college staff and faculty better support student parents. Montgomery College is the first institution in the country to implement the training.
The program features short documentaries produced by Soledad O’Brien Productions and was created in partnership with national nonprofits Believe in Students and Ascend at the Aspen Institute. The video content highlights powerful, real-life narratives from Montgomery College student parents. It is designed to foster awareness, empathy, and action among faculty and staff nationwide.
The event will include opening remarks, a panel discussion with student and faculty participants, and a video preview. A networking reception will follow.
The training aims to raise awareness and promote action to support students balancing school, work, and caregiving. Educators, community leaders, and advocates are encouraged to attend.
