Current and former Montgomery County residents are featured prominently in The Forbes 2023 list of the 400 wealthiest Americans.
Josh Harris, 58, came in as the 147th richest person in the country on the Forbes list. Reportedly, he has a net worth of $6.9 billion. Harris, who recently led a group to purchase the Washington Commanders and FedEx Field from Dan Snyder has roots in Montgomery County. Harris grew up in Chevy Chase and now calls Florida home.
Annette Lerner and family were listed at #161 with a net worth of $6.5 billion. Her husband, Ted Lerner, died in February leaving his estate to Annette and her children. The Lerners are principal owners of the Washington Nationals baseball team. The Lerners made their money in real estate and live in Chevy Chase.
Mitchell Rales, 67, was ranked #244 with a net worth of $4.7 billion. The businessman cofounded Danaher Corporation and is chairman of its executive committee. The Potomac resident is the developer and financier of the Glenstone Museum. He attended Walt Whitman High School where he played on the football and baseball teams. Rales is also a minority owner of the Washington Commanders.
Dan Snyder, former owner of the Washington Commanders is ranked #281 with a net worth of $4.1 billion. The 58 year-old put his former Potomac estate up for sale in 2023. He is the founder of Snyder Communications.
Bethesda resident David Rubenstein, with a net worth of $3.5 billion, is #327 on the list. Rubenstein made his fortune in private equity and is one of the founders of The Carlyle Group. Known for his philanthropy, Rubenstein, 74, has pledged to donate more than half of his wealth as part of the Giving Pledge campaign.
