Montgomery County High School Athlete of the Week: Evelyn Javers

Evelyn Javers likes to win. The senior forward for Whitman High School has done nothing but win during her four-year career at the Bethesda school.

Javers scored two goals and added an assist in a 3-0 win in the state championship game vs Crofton Nov. 15. It was the Vikings’ fourth consecutive Class 4A state championship.

For her efforts, Javers has been named MCM’s Montgomery County High School Athlete of the Week. Throughout the school year, the Montgomery County Sports Hall of Fame partners with Montgomery Community Media to honor an Athlete of the Week from the county’s more than 40 public and private high schools.

This year, she was sidelined for the majority of the regular season with a partially torn quad, but returned to the field for the post season.  She was essential in two games against Whitman’s biggest rival, scoring 3 of the 4 goals against Quince Orchard.

Javers was named to the MD All State team and Washington Post All-Met first team her sophomore and junior years. She was selected captain by her teammates her senior year. She plays as a forward and in the midfield for Fairfax VA Union/McLean club in the ECNL league, the WPSL and Pro23 summer leagues. Javers was tied for second highest goal scorer for her McLean team in the WPSL league this past summer.

“Evelyn has exceptional technical ability and an uncanny ability ot read the game.  She makes the right passes, pushes the ball into the right spots and knows just how and where to expose her opponents,” Whitman head coach Gregory Herbert told MCM.

Javers saved her best when the games counted the most. In four state title games, she scored 4 goals and 2 assists.

“Evelyn is one of the most clutch players I’ve ever had the privilege to coach. In the biggest moments, she is the rock we leaned on the most,” he said.
“It has been an honor to coach Evelyn these past four years at Whitman. Her leadership on and off the field has been an invaluable part of this team’s success for the past four years,” Herbert said.
Javers is headed to Columbia University next year where she will play attack.
