Ouyang is tied for second in the Patriots’ program-wide aces competition with 25. Wootton fields both a boys and co-ed varsity volleyball squad.
The boys’ team, which Ouyang has led to a 10-1 record in the Spring season, has routinely dominated their opponents.
A 3-1 win on April 10 versus Rockville was, for a long time, the only game in which the Patriots had lost a set.
Prior to the team’s first loss of the season Monday against undefeated Winston Churchill, their nine other contests all ended in 3-0 wins.
Luckily for Wootton, their flawless record outside of the Churchill loss has them sitting in first in Montgomery County’s North division. They’re currently in a tie for third in the county with Montgomery Blair.
However, not having the best record won’t mean anything to the Patriots. Last year, the team lost two games in the regular season and entered the playoff bracket as the four seed.
Wootton upset top-seeded Churchill in the semifinal and blanked 3rd-seeded Walter Johnson in the championship.
With Ouyang continuing his dominance from behind the service line, the Patriots are likely to find themselves in a position to defend their title.
