1. Advocates Call for Elimination of ‘Subminimum Wage’ and Tip Credit

Councilmember Will Jawando introduced a bill Tuesday morning that would change the way tipped workers are compensated. Representatives from One Fair Wage, CASA, Our Revolution, SEIU Local 1199 and National Women’s Law Center joined Jawando in front of the council office in Rockville to call for passage of the bill. A public hearing is set for Oct. 10.

A county council staffer was put on administrative leave following an investigation into allegations that the employee “inappropriately charged” more than $11,000 in reservations for county athletic fields to a council account.

Following the release of a summary report into the promotion of a school principal who has reportedly had multiple sexual harassment complaints filed against him, County Executive Marc Elrich said the findings are “deeply disturbing.”

Thousands of Kaiser Permanente healthcare workers in the Washington Metropolitan region have voted to strike if their demands aren’t met by Sept. 30 in what could become the largest healthcare strike in U.S. history.

5.  ‘Suspicious’ Fires in Gaithersburg Investigated

Fire investigators are looking into multiple fires that happened Sunday in Gaithersburg. At least half a dozen “suspicious” fires occurred early Sunday morning, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.
