1. Residents Join Community Town Hall on Opioid Crisis

Parents and community members joined a town hall to voice their concerns about the opioid crisis and share their ideas to combat the issue. The town hall was held Thursday evening at the county council building in Rockville. It was hosted by the state’s Opioid Operational Command Center and the county’s Department of Health and Human Services.

3. County Seeking Public Input on Energy Performance Standards

Montgomery County recently announced a draft of its new energy standards buildings must meet. The plan referred to as Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) sets a minimum energy performance for existing covered buildings. The Department of Environmental Protection is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of BEPS.

The draft will be open to public comment during a 30-day period that will end on Nov. 30.

4. Winter City Lights Holiday Event Opens Nov. 18

5. Lawsuit Against MCPS Documents Years of Harassment by Beidleman

A former Farquhar Middle School teacher has filed a lawsuit against former Paint Branch High School Principal Joel Beidleman and Montgomery County Board of Education, accusing both parties of creating a discriminatory and hostile work environment on the basis of sex.
