1. City of Rockville Election Forum
The King Farm Citizens Assembly hosted a candidates forum for the city of Rockville election on Wednesday. Candidates for mayor and the city council participated in the forum. MCM streamed the forum live.
2. Leaf Blower Bill Signed Into Law
Gas-powered leaf blowers will be phased out in Montgomery County. On Monday in Rockville, County Executive Marc Elrich signed the bill prohibiting gas leaf blowers in coming years.
3. Autism Society Expands into Montgomery County
The Howard County Autism Society has rebranded to the Autism Society of Maryland (AUSOM), expanding into localities including Montgomery County.
4. Servers, Bartenders Rally Against Eliminating Tip Credit
Restaurant employees voiced their opposition to proposals that would eliminate the tip credit. Servers and bartenders from Montgomery and Prince George’s counties rallied Thursday against proposed legislation from both counties.
5. Council Adopts ‘Historic’ Pedestrian Master Plan
Montgomery County Council on Tuesday unanimously approved its first Pedestrian Master Plan that is designed to make it safer and more convenient to walk and bicycle throughout the county. The goals are to increase the number of people who walk to work and shopping, enhance safety, create a connected and convenient pedestrian network and do it all equitably.
