The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is hiring 911 specialists, with fast-track hiring events planned for May 16 and June 20.
The starting salary for the position is $53,900 and includes a $5,000 hiring bonus, according to the department’s website. The position also includes a potential salary increase of over 20% after a preliminary training session.
Major duties of the position include answering 911 emergency calls and dispatching police and fire-rescue personnel. Applicants must demonstrate communication skills and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
According to numbers released last year, staffing at call centers is down more than 30% in the county. This leads to longer response times and increased workload for existing staff. Nationally call centers are looking to Congress for additional funding.
