County officials and local activists joined together Friday to announce their support for gun safety during June’s National Gun Violence Awareness Month.
During a news conference arranged by Councilmember Gabe Albornoz in Rockville Friday, legislators and activists urged everyone to join together to help get guns off the street and curb gun violence.
“Legislation alone is not going to change this problem. We all have to work collectively to change hearts and minds,” Albornoz said.
Participants were dressed in orange in memory of Hadiya Pendleton, who marched in former President Barack Obama’s second inaugural parade. One week later, she was shot and killed on a Chicago playground.
Her friends began wearing orange, the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves.
