Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for Jan. 27, 2021
The Maryland Department of Health reported 359 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Wednesday morning. The county’s cumulative case count is 57,685.
Montgomery County recorded eight new coronavirus-related fatalities Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 1,248.
As of Wednesday, 26 schools in the state are reporting COVID-19 cases, five are located in Montgomery County. They include:
- The Avalon School in Wheaton reports three cases.
- Brookewood School located in Kensington reports three cases.
- Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda reports four cases.
- The Heights School located in Potomac has four cases.
- The Primary Day School in Bethesda reports two cases.
The county has a rolling seven-day average of 5.91% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is a decrease of 0.15 from Tuesday’s average rate of 6.06%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 19 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.
With 1,248 fatalities, Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities but not in total cases. Prince George’s County has the most coronavirus cases in the state with 66,535 cases and 1,186 fatalities.
Allegany County in the western region of the state has the most cases per capita at 86.9 cases per 1,000 residents. Somerset County located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore has the second-highest per capita cases with 86.2 cases per 1,000 residents.

Wednesday the state recorded 1,939 new infections. The state’s cumulative case count is 346,559.
There are 1,647 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 across the state as of Wednesday morning. The number of hospitalizations appears to be declining from the pandemic high of nearly 2,000 patients on Jan. 11.
Wednesday the state recorded 33 newly reported deaths, bringing the state death toll to 6,821.
The state reported a rolling seven-day average of 6.38% for positive COVID-19 tests Wednesday. This is a decrease of 0.26 from Tuesday’s rate of 6.64%. The positivity rate is less than 7% for the third straight day. Previously the rate was last below 7% on Nov. 30.
