Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics for Jan. 14, 2021
The Maryland Department of Health reported 474 new COVID-19 cases in Montgomery County Thursday morning bringing the county’s cumulative case count is 52,842.
Montgomery County recorded seven new coronavirus-related fatalities Thursday, bringing the death toll to 1,167.
The county reported Jan. 12 that 303 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19. Hospitalizations continue to be at the highest level since May.
The county has a rate of 7.13% for positive COVID-19 tests, which is a slight increase of 0.02 from Wednesday’s rate of 7.11%. The county’s positivity rate is lower than in 21 of Maryland’s 24 jurisdictions.
Montgomery County leads the state in total COVID-19 related fatalities. Prince George’s County has the second-highest number with 1,128 fatalities and the most coronavirus cases in the state with 61,516 cases.
Allegany County in the western region of the state has the most cases per capita at 82.6 cases per 1,000 residents. Somerset County has the second-highest per capita cases with 79.9 cases per 1,000 residents.

Thursday the state recorded 2,948 new infections. The new cases bring the state’s cumulative case count to 317,815.
On Thursday, the state reported 1,843 patients were hospitalized across the state with the virus. While the number hospitalized with COVID-19 has dropped for the third straight day, the number of hospitalizations remains at the highest level since the start of the pandemic.
Thursday the state recorded 44 newly reported deaths, bringing the state death toll 6,277.
The state reported a rate of 8.43% for positive COVID-19 tests Thursday. This is a decrease of 0.1 from Wednesday’s rate of 8.53%.
