Strong storms on Friday and Saturday left damage across Montgomery County.
The thunderstorms came with high gusts of wind and lowered temperatures during a heat wave in the region. Storm clean ups continue into this week.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) responded to numerous calls about downed trees and electrical wires throughout the weekend, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer.

The storms caused power outages around the county. Pepco has restored power to most of their 70,000 affected customers and is continuing to work to restore power to the remaining customers.
As of 10 a.m. on Monday, 2,531 of Pepco’s Montgomery County customers are still affected by a power outage, according to Pepco’s outage tracker.
In an update Monday morning, Montgomery County Assistant Chief Administrative Officer explained the complicated and challenging process of restoring power.
Just to provide an update on storm clean-up. Right now, the primary focus remains power restoration and road clearance. That requires coordination between the County and power utilities given the intersection between vegetation and power lines. (1/x)

Power outages also affected Montgomery College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus. Several of the campus buildings are closed today. The school anticipates that power in those buildings will be restored by the end of the day and that the buildings will reopen on Tuesday.
