The annual County Health Rankings (CHR) released by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ranked Montgomery County as the healthiest county in the state, according to a press release
This is the ninth straight year that Montgomery County has been ranked as the healthiest county. Howard County, Frederick County, Calvert County, and St. Mary’s County rounded out this year’s top five.
Some of the highlights from the report and for the county include low rates of physical inactivity (17% compared to a 21% rate statewide), a 100% rate of high accessibility to exercise opportunities, and low rates of uninsured residents, with only 7% of Montgomery County residents being uninsured.
The press release included the following quote from County Executive Mark Elrich:
“I am proud that Montgomery County is again the healthiest county in Maryland. While there remains work to be done, I want to thank our health officials, hospitals, community-based nonprofit health providers, and other stakeholders for continuing to emphasize the importance of improving health outcomes for all of our community’s residents.”
