Montgomery County is under a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service advises residents to be alert for rapidly changing weather conditions and to take shelter if a warning is issued.
The NWS issues a watch when weather conditions may produce a severe, life-threatening weather event.

The National Weather Service also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for portions of the county until 4:45 p.m. Germantown, Gaithersburg and Potomac are included in the warning.
