A Montgomery Parks scholarship is making it possible for 34 children and teens to go to summer camp this year.
Funded by community donations, the Marye Wells-Harley Dream Camp Scholarship provides one week of camp tuition to people ages 3 to 18 whose families demonstrate financial need.
“The Marye Wells-Harley Dream Scholarship Fund gives kids a chance to try a new activity over the summer, learn new skills, and have fun,” Montgomery Parks Director Mike Riley said in a press release about the scholarship.
The scholarship was created in 2018 to honor former Montgomery County Planning Board member Marye Wells-Harley’s commitment to youth and parks and recreation. The largest number of scholarships since the program’s inception was granted this year.
“This record number of awardees means that we are getting the word out to the people that need the services,” Wells-Harley said in the press release.
Camp scholarship applications for next summer will open in early 2024.
