Montgomery Parks’ Winter Hikes Offer Chance to Explore, Enjoy Outdoors

Montgomery Parks invites residents to embrace the outdoors with a series of winter hikes promoting physical and mental well-being. Options include evening treks, moonlit adventures, dog-friendly hikes, and a flashlight-free night hike.

Evening Hike Series
The Evening Hike Series runs Fridays, Dec. 13 through Jan. 24, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., starting at Brookside Nature Center. This 2.5- to 3-mile hike on natural surface trails in Wheaton Regional Park is open to adults 18 and older. The program is free, but registration is required. Register for Evening Hike Series.

Full Moon Fridays
Enjoy the glow of a full moon at Locust Grove Nature Center on Friday, Dec. 13, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event includes a hike and campfire. Bring hot dogs; marshmallows are provided. Open to ages 5 and older, the cost is $8 per person. Registration is required. Register for Full Moon Fridays.

My Dog and Me Hikes
Bring your furry friends for My Dog and Me Hikes on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Brookside Nature Center. Small dogs hike from 10 to 11 a.m., while larger dogs walk from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The 1- to 1.5-mile hike on natural surface trails is open to ages 8 and older. The cost is $8 per person, and dogs participate for free. Registration is required.  Register for My Dog and Me Hike.

Night Hike
Experience nature in darkness during a Night Hike at Black Hill Discovery Center on Saturday, Dec. 14, from 5 to 6 p.m. This one-mile, post-sunset stroll prohibits flashlights to enhance the nocturnal experience. Open to ages 8 and older, the cost is $7 per person or $6 for Friends of Black Hill members. Registration is required.  Register for Night Hike.
