A Montgomery Village mother of six was found guilty of child neglect and not guilty of homicide Wednesday.
Cynthia Moore, 41, was found guilty of child neglect of her six minor children following a seven-day trial earlier this month. She faces up to 30 years in prison and will be sentenced Jan. 22, 2025.
According to court records, Moore and her husband, Dominique Moore, were arrested and indicted on charges of second-degree depraved heart murder, involuntary manslaughter and child neglect. They were under investigation concerning the death of their 17-year-old daughter on May 10, 2022.
“We stand by the charges filed by the State in this case and are disappointed with this verdict. We will reserve further comment at this time as there is still a co-defendant with pending charges,” said Lauren DeMarco, spokesperson for the State’s Attorney’s Office.
When emergency workers went to the Moores’ home on Quill Place following a call about an unresponsive child, they reported that the family was living in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s office.
Dominique Moore is scheduled for trial Nov. 4.
