The Montgomery Planning Board passed a resolution on Feb. 24 to rename Montrose Parkway in honor of Rev. Josiah Henson.
The renaming ceremony will take place Friday, March 4 at 9:00 am at the intersection of Montrose Parkway and Stonehenge Place in North Bethesda. The street runs near the Josiah Henson Museum & Park where Henson was enslaved.
Henson escaped enslavement becoming an international speaker and abolitionist. He led over 100 people from enslavement to freedom in Canada through the Underground Railroad.
