Maryland Gov. Wes Moore called the past six weeks since Donald Trump became President “worse than anything we could have anticipated.”
It has resulted in “tens of thousands of layoffs” of Maryland residents, Moore said. These people who are being fired “raised their hands to serve.”
Although Moore said he would “work with anyone,” including Trump, he noted Friday, “I will bow down to no one.”
Therefore, Moore laid out five initiatives designed to help fired federal workers during a speech Friday afternoon.
First, the newly launched state resources website will be enhanced. It now also will include information concerning housing, state benefits and information for veterans.
Maryland will work hard to connect federal workers to vacant teaching positions, Moore said. Information on qualifying for teaching jobs can be found here.
Job fairs will be held across Maryland. Check out the schedule here. A March 7 virtual information session to learn about state jobs.
Lastly, Moore said he signed three memoranda designed to speed up internal hiring processes to get workers on jobs quickly.
During his years in the U.S. Army, Moore said he learned when attacked, you mobilize.
“Maryland is mobilizing,” he said. These people who are being fired “are really talented people” who “raised their hands to serve.”
He urged all private businesses and non-profits also to mobilize and hire the federal workers “that have been unfairly laid off.”
Moore added, “This is the moment Maryland is going to get creative.”
