As meetings and rallies continue to support federal employees who are being cut under President Donald Trump’s administration, County Council President Kate Stewart said more than 1,000 federal employees living in the county are estimated to have lost their jobs.
“As of last week, more than 1,000 Montgomery County residents have lost their federal jobs, based on an estimate provided by the County Executive’s office,” Stewart said during a media briefing Monday.
She mentioned a rally she attended Saturday outside the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda to protest layoffs and defend the work of the NIH.
The council launched a webinar series for federal workers and others being impacted by federal decisions — so far there have been two meetings. The next one is Wednesday, March 19, and will be hosted by County Council Vice President Will Jawando with a focus on workers’ rights and legal updates related to Trump’s executive orders.
