More than 150 residents are expected to participate in public hearings this week for a proposed $6.8 billion operating budget, County Council President Evan Glass said Monday.
“We expect more than 150 residents to participate and testify,” Glass said during a media briefing.
County Executive Marc Elrich sent his recommended Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 operating budget to the council last month. As part of his budget announcement, Elrich proposed a 10-cent property tax increase.
Four public hearings will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. each day. The deadline to speak has passed, according to the sign-up calendar. The hearings will be held in the Council Office Building in Rockville and will be livestreamed on the council’s YouTube channel.
The council has final authority on the budget and must approve it before it goes into effect.
