A mother was charged with the attempted murder of her three-year-old daughter on Saturday.
The Wheaton-Glenmont resident, Anne Catherine Akers, 28, was charged after a relative arrived at the house and noticed blood on the floor. The relative immediately left and called 911.
When Montgomery County Police Department officers arrived, they found blood and a pair of scissors on the floor. Officers then found Akers on her bedroom floor with a laceration on her neck and began assessing her injuries.
When officers arrived at the scene, Akers was holding the child in a blanket when officers saw the child had also suffered a laceration on the neck. Officers performed life-saving assistance to the child. She was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Physicians who treated the child stated that without immediate help from the officers, the child’s injuries would have been fatal.
Akers has been charged with one count of attempted second-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of first-degree child abuse. She is being held without bond at the Central Processing Unit and will have a bond review on Monday, March 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rockville District Court.
