Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFR) and other emergency personnel responded to the scene at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The collision involved five vehicles — including two tractor-trailers, a box truck and two other vehicles, according to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. Officials transported three people with non-life threatening injuries to a local hospital. Several other patients were evaluated at the scene but refused further medical attention, Piringer said.
All lanes on the outer loop of the beltway right before the I-270 split were shut down for a brief period of time. As of 1:40 p.m., Piringer said at least one of the lanes was reopened while hazmat crews continued to clean the fuel spill of one of the tractor-trailers.
