The van driver was identified as 25-year-old Silver Spring man Ovidio Aroldo Gonzalez Cortez. He was driving a white 2006 Chevrolet Express 250, traveling on northbound New Hampshire Ave., when he crossed the median and struck a blue 2008 Toyota Corolla in the southbound lane, the MCPD press release said. Then, the Corolla was struck by the Metro bus.
Why he crossed the median is unclear and still under investigation.

Three vehicles – a Metro bus, a van and a car – collided Sunday night in White Oak, Md., where the van driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD).
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue (MCFRS) personnel responded to the collision in the area of New Hampshire Ave. and Lockwood Dr. close to 9 p.m.
There is no confirmed age for the deceased male, according to the press release.
The driver of the car, an adult male, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The Metro bus driver and bus passengers sustained no injuries, the press release details.
This is an active and ongoing investigation, MCPD said.
