During his first media briefing as council president Monday, Andrew Friedson said “gardez bien” or “guard well” will not just be the county’s motto but a guiding principle.
Friedson noted producing and preserving affordable housing, early child care/education and needs for seniors.
He said he wants to focus the next year on unleashing the potential of the aging adult population. On Tuesday, he will propose a senior property tax credit targeted based on income. Friedson says it raises the amount that is eligible based on the value of homes, “so that we’re not unnecessarily leaving people out of the mix, but we are targeting it to those who need it the most.”
He reiterated that in coming weeks, he will announce a series of proposals toward a new economic development vision.
Friedson was elected council president last Tuesday. Last week, he said “transparency and accountability will be our governing doctrine” as councilmembers work toward shared policy goals. He said, “We will boldly embrace our oversight role like never before,” and that begins with public schools.
