Montgomery County soccer fans and enthusiasts have a new team to cheer for as Montgomery Soccer Inc. (MSI) unveils the area’s brand-new semi-professional soccer team, the Golden Knights.
MSI’s Golden Knights aim to become a symbol of local pride and a hub for developing soccer talent. The new team will hold their first pre-season game against World Class Premier of Gaithersburg at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, with kickoff Sunday, Aug. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
The team’s roster is comprised of a blend of emerging local talents and experienced players. MSI says the new team’s collective skill set is matched only by their commitment to community engagement. In reflecting the essence of Montgomery County, the Golden Knights are positioned to unite fans from various backgrounds according to the team.
“At MSI, we are driven by a shared love for soccer and a genuine desire to create a positive impact in Montgomery County’s sporting ecosystem,” said Executive Director Gus Delgado in a press release. “We aim to provide local talent with a platform to shine, instilling values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play.”
In an expansive community outreach effort, MSI is forging partnerships with local educational institutions, youth organizations, and charities. The collaboration aims to encourage sportsmanship and foster a competitive spirit among young talents.
“We believe that soccer holds the potential to knit communities together, fuel the dreams of future athletes, and become a source of unforgettable experiences,” Delgado said in a release. “MSI’s ambition is to become an agent of positive transformation, both on the pitch and beyond.”
To kickstart community engagement, the Golden Knights will orchestrate a series of interactive fan events throughout the next couple of months. The team’s supporters are encouraged to keep tabs on the latest news through social media and the official MSI website.
