A new director for the county’s Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has been nominated after the department’s former director moved on in 2021.
County Executive Marc Elrich nominated Jon Monger as director, per a release from the county Friday, and Monger is currently Assistant Deputy Administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
In 2021, former DEP Director Adam Ortiz was named regional administrator at the EPA.
Friday’s release also stated Elrich nominated Dr. James Bridgers for director of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
Last month, Elrich announced he recommended Bridgers, who had said he “looks forward” to serving.
Former DHHS Director Dr. Raymond Crowel retired in February. Bridgers is acting director for the department, per the county. He was named chief of public health services in January. Bridgers was temporarily acting health officer before Dr. Kisha Davis was appointed.
The county council is set to vote on the nominations of Monger and Bridgers on Tuesday, June 20, per the release.
