United Therapeutics will expand in downtown Silver Spring, bringing a new parking garage, retail space and land for affordable housing as part of a newly-proposed more than $100 million deal with the county.
According to the county, United Therapeutics will construct a public garage at 8615 Georgia Avenue, and it will include land for future affordable housing and retail space on the ground floor. The company will relocate the county’s transportation department parking operations facility to 9150 Brookville Road.
Ownership of the new garage site would transfer from United Therapeutics to the county after completion, according to the county. The county would then transfer ownership of the current Spring Cameron parking garage site to United Therapeutics for the company’s future growth.
The process requires council approval as well as public input.
