Robert DiSpirito, city manager of Rockville for seven years, was chosen as the new Takoma Park City Manager.
The city council conducted a national search following the resignation of Jamal Fox 11 months ago. About 60 people applied for the position.
“Throughout the process, Mr. DiSpirito was a standout,” Takoma Park officials said in a statement. “He is a proven leader with knowledge of the challenges and opportunities we have in Montgomery County, 28 years of City Manager experience, and the vision necessary to move our city forward.”
Besides Rockville, DiSpirito was city manager of Dunedin, Florida and Oberlin, Ohio. He also served as deputy city manager in Meadville, Pennsylvania and Delaware, Ohio.
“My prior experience as a City Manager and a practitioner of economic development, sustainability, and partnerships is suited to the challenges of a dynamic and evolving Takoma Park,” DiSpirito said in a news release. I look forward to being a collaborative and contributing member of the very talented Takoma Park team and this very special community.”
He begins his duties overseeing about 200 employees Monday.
