Leaders cut the ribbon on a new wine crush facility and events venue in Poolesville.
“The mission of The Crossvines is to create economic opportunities and investment in [agricultural] tourism, as well as event services and wine making,” said Keith Miller, CEO of the Montgomery County Revenue Authority, during a grand opening celebration Monday.
The Crossvines will officially open July 8.
The venue at 16601 W. Willard Road also features a research vineyard and restaurant.
“You can grow grapes here and produce wine that’s the equal of anything that’s coming out of California,” said County Executive Marc Elrich. “And so Maryland has the potential, and we have the potential, to be the center of this.”
Elrich said the facility will mean money gets spent in the county and in Poolesville, “which has suffered from disinvestment and lack of other activities.” He said he expects to see a boom in activities to reflect the facility.
“This is probably the greatest thing that’s happened to us from a commercial standpoint and from a tourism standpoint that the Town of Poolesville could ever have,” said Jim Brown, President of the Poolesville Town Commissioners.
A groundbreaking was held in April 2022.
