
The newly-named Cabin Branch Elementary School opens to students this fall.
On Tuesday, the Montgomery County Board of Education unanimously voted to rename Clarksburg Elementary School #9 following a series of community and committee meetings.
According to a Google survey of area residents, Cabin Branch was the first choice of 58% of the respondents. Waverly Woodson placed a distant second with 16% followed by Maya Angelo at 13%.
The school naming committee was convened by the school’s principal, Stephanie Dinga.
Asian and American Indian students will comprise the majority of students at the new school at 44%, followed by Black or African American students at 29%, Hispanics at 111% and Whites at 9%.
