Newly Reopened Woodlawn Manor Not Shying Away From Its History

In May, Woodlawn Manor in Sandy Spring reopened its doors to the public. For several years, the venue had been rented out for weddings and other events.

Like many landmarks of its era, Woodlawn Manor has a complicated history. The owners of the manor, which sits in the heart of one of Maryland’s Quaker communities, used enslaved people to maintain the house and grounds.

MCM paid a visit to Woodlawn to get the full story behind the mansion’s elegant facade.

For $5 you can take a guided tour of the 19th century Federalist home. The tour schedule includes Saturdays at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m. until November 24. You can purchase tickets for $5 on the day of your visit. Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park is located at 16501 Norwood Road in Sandy Spring.
