Newport Mill Middle School has lifted its temporary lockdown. The Silver Spring school was put on lockdown around 1 p.m. Friday after gunshot sounds were reportedly heard in the area.
Montgomery County Police said the sounds did not involve the school and that there was no active threat to students.
The school proceeded with a regular dismissal schedule.
