If you did not buy a ticket for Tuesday’s Mega Millions lottery worth $810 million, you’re in luck. There was no grand prize winner and the jackpot is now worth over $1 billion. That’s billion with a “b.”
The drawing for the gargantuan Mega Millions lottery payout will be Friday night. Tickets cost $2.00 each.
With no entry matching all six numbers Tuesday, the estimated jackpot was $1.025 billion – or $602.5 million in cash – as of Wednesday morning. For only the third time in its 20-year history, the Mega Millions big prize will surpass $1 billion.
Although no one won the top prize Tuesday, winning lottery tickets at other levels totaled $6.8 million. So many people purchased tickets for Tuesday’s drawing that the Mega Millions website was down for more than two hours.
A South Carolina lottery ticket holder holds the record for winning the largest Mega Millions prize. That jackpot reached $1.537 billion on Oct. 23, 2018.
