During his weekly virtual media briefing on Wednesday, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich responded to Gov. Larry Hogan’s guidance on moving into the next re-opening phase.
Although Hogan announced on Tuesday that the state was easing restrictions and moving to Phase 3, Elrich says data shows that Montgomery County is not ready to move into the next phase safely.
“I won’t say we’re going to move into Phase 3, we will continue to likely modify our Phase 2, which we have been doing all along,” said Elrich.

Montgomery County Health Officer Dr. Travis Gayles said also during Elrich’s weekly briefing that there continues to be an increase in COVID-19 cases among younger age groups.

Elrich expressed disappointment with leaders on a national level when it comes to easing restrictions and testing efforts amid the COVID-19 health crisis.
“This goes beyond neglect. It goes beyond regular carelessness. This is actually a set of actions which is an endangerment to communities in this country and not just Montgomery County,” Elrich said.
